Immunisations

child_injectionTetanus
Anyone who has had a full primary course of three injections and at least two boosters, will have life-long immunity, but contaminated wounds may require further immunisation. Patients over fifty may not have had these vaccinations, so please check with the Practice Nurse, remembering that gardeners are particularly at risk.

Rubella:
It is strongly recommended that all women planning to become pregnant should have their immunity to rubella checked and if necessary immunisation can then be given.

‘Flu:
In October and November of each year, we offer ‘flu injections to patients who are particularly at risk. This includes all patients who are over sixty-five, asthmatics, patients with long-standing heart and lung complaints, diabetics and those on long-term steroids or immuno-suppressants. We run successful Saturday morning Flu clinics in the Autumn to keep you safe over the winter months.

Travel Vaccinations:
These are available by appointment with the Practice Nurses. They should be made at least eight weeks prior to travel if possible – some are free, but a charge may be payable for others.

Cervical Smears:
It is our practice policy that all women between the ages of twenty five and sixty-five, should have a cervical smear every five years, which can be done either by our Practice Nurse or your own Doctor. These tests are most important, as they can detect early signs of serious disease, which can then be easily treated. We also operate a recall system to remind you about the test as well as advising you, by letter, of the result of your smear.

Maternity Services:
Antenatal clinics are run weekly by our Midwife, who liaises closely with our Doctors.

Contraceptive Services:
We provide family planning advice, including fitting IUCDs (coils) together with emergency contraception (morning after pill), which needs to be started within seventy-two hours of unprotected sex.

Other Services

Physiotherapy:
These services are available on referral by our GP to the Physiotherapy Department at Exmouth Hospital.

Well Person checks
Our Practice Nurses offer health checks, which involve a blood pressure and urine test, plus advice on diet, exercise and smoking. Immunisations are also checked and these are available on request.

Minor Surgical Procedures
These are carried out by the partners, here at the surgery by appointment.

Special Clinics:
Clinics are available for warfarin monitoring, asthma, diabetes, smoking, hypertension and heart disease.
A Sports Medicine Clinic, Reflexology, Healing and Counselling are available at the surgery on a private basis.
